WHAT TO PACK FOR YOUR ALASKAN CRUISE

A cruise is a fantastic way to experience everything Alaska has to offer – but it’s important that you pack for your cruise to Alaska the right way so that you get the most out of your time spent in such a stunning part of the country.

Cruises through Alaska are almost always taken during the warmer months, but warm in Alaska might be very different from warm along the East Coast. Because of this, it’s important that you bring along some necessities, whether you’re exploring the scenic terrain, Alaska’s historic towns or whale watching on the ship.

We’ll go into some of the top items you should bring on your trip – so be sure to keep this checklist handy when you start packing!

HIKING BOOTS AND POLES

If you’ve decided to go on an Alaskan cruise, you might very well be taking part in some outdoor activities. Bring proper footwear along so that you’re explorations are done comfortably. If you decide to go on any hikes, a hiking pole will make your experience that much easier and enjoyable.

SUNSCREEN

You might think of Alaska and immediately disregard the idea of sunscreen. But the sun’s rays are actually very strong here, so it’s important that you use sunscreen. A bad burn can quickly ruin a trip – and it’s better to be safe than sorry.

INSECT REPELLANT

The bugs in Alaska are different from those found along the East Coast so remember to bring some protection along. This way, you’ll remember your trip for things like the nature and wildlife, rather than how much you were swatting at those pesky bugs. Be sure to keep repellant handy when you’re outdoors.

LAYERS

When you’re traveling through Alaska, whether you’re staying onboard the ship or shopping in one of its small towns, you’ll quickly notice how warm it can be one second and how chilly it might be the next. The second the sun hides behind the clouds, you’ll feel that chill, which is why layering is so important.

COLLAPSIBLE BACKPACK

Drawstring, collapsible backpacks are a great way place to keep those layers you may be discarding or putting back on. They’re small and compact, so they won’t be a burden to carry around as you go on any Alaskan adventures.

BINOCULARS

There’s so much to see in Alaska in terms of nature and wildlife. Bringing a good set of binoculars will let you see even the smallest, farthest of things and is definitely a must-have during your trip.

ZIPLOC BAGS

You might be in wet conditions, so it’s a good idea to bring ziploc bags where you can put personal or electronic items in order to keep them safe.

WATERPROOF JACKET

This might be used more than you realize, especially onboard the ship. Weather is a little unpredictable in this part of the country, so bringing along a lightweight waterproof jacket is not a bad idea.

A CAMERA

There will be so much to take in on your Alaskan cruise – from beautiful scenery to exciting wildlife, there’s no shortage of material when it comes to documenting your trip. Pack a camera to remember your trip by.
